Since April 2, 2021, Professors Sharon Lewin and Guido Silvestri, both international experts in infectious diseases, have fulfilled the respective roles of President and Vice-President of the ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases Scientific Advisory Board.

At the suggestion of Prof. Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Director of ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Advisory Board appointed Professors Sharon Lewin and Guido Silvestri to the respective roles of President and Vice-President of the Scientific Advisory Board on April 2, 2021.

Pr Sharon LewinProf. Sharon Lewin is Melbourne Laureate Professor of Medicine at The University of Melbourne, Director of the Peter Doherty Institute for infection and Immunity and a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Practitioner Fellow. The laboratory she leads conducts basic, translational and clinical research on HIV cure and interactions between HIV and the hepatitis B virus. Sharon Lewin is Co-Chair of the “Towards an HIV Cure” initiative of the International AIDS Society (IAS). She is also the Lead Investigator of the Australian Partnership for Preparedness Research on Infectious Diseases Emergencies (APPRISE)..

Pr Guido SilvestriProf. Guido Silvestri is a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Comparative Pathology, as well as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta). He also serves as Chief of the Division of Microbiology and Immunology at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center. Dr. Silvestri's work has focused on HIV infection pathogenesis, prevention, and therapy, as well as on non-human primate models of HIV. He is Editor of the Journal of Virology, and a member, among others things, of the Scientific Committee of the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) and of the IAS "Towards an HIV Cure" initiative.

Together with the other members of the Scientific Advisory Board, Professors Lewin and Silvestri will help to define the major scientific directions and review the work carried out by ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases.
