Main points

The Global Health EDCTP3 partnership was established between European and sub-Saharan African countries for clinical trials.

The partnership aims to support collaborative research projects in order to accelerate the development of new clinical interventions or optimise existing ones for:

  • the prevention or treatment of HIV/AIDS;
  • tuberculosis;
  • malaria;
  • other emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases linked to poverty, known as neglected infectious diseases.

France is an active member of the partnership

ANRS MIE & Global Health EDCTP3

ANRS MIE is heavily involved in defining the partnership’s purposes, as well as in its implementation. Alongside the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the agency participates in the EDCTP General Assembly, acting as a link between all French research institutions.

  • France has been represented on the EDCTP Steering Committee for several years by Yazdan Yazdanpanah from 2019 to 2022 and by Eric D’Ortenzio, Head of Strategy and Partnerships at ANRS MIE since May 2022. Two technical advisors from the agency are also taking part in the EDCTP General Assembly.
  • Within the framework of Aviesan Sud, together with ITMO I3M and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, ANRS MIE  leads an EDCTP mirror group to share information and foster cooperation between French institutions.
  • ANRS MIE centralises French in-kind contributions and acts as an interface between French research institutions and the EDCTP Secretarial teams.

The contribution of ANRS MIE to the EDCTP programme

ANRS MIE has contributed and continues to contribute actively to the EDCTP programme through:

  • Funding clinical trials and multidisciplinary research projects in sub-Saharan Africa as part of the biannual calls for projects it organises.
  • Support and funding for four partner research sites in West Africa (Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso)
  • Funding for doctoral and postdoctoral research grants for young researchers conducting research in partner countries

The list of actions funded by ANRS MIE that are part of the EDCTP partnership is available below (coming soon).
