In brief

Signing of a memorandum of understanding at COMIX 2024 in Manaus: Franco-Brazilian scientific cooperation in the field of health is diversifying and strengthening.

On September 20, 2024, during the COMIX (Comité Mixte France-Brésil) in Manaus and on the occasion of INSERM’s participation in this event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between CNPq (Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and ANRS MIE.

Dr. Ricardo Galvão, President of CNPq, and Thomas Lombès, Inserm‘s Deputy Director General for Strategy, set the tone for the Franco-Brazilian COMIX by signing the agreement at the opening of the event.

This partnership formalizes the numerous exchanges that have taken place between the two institutions since 2023, and creates a framework for cooperation in the organization of events, the sharing of knowledge, the provision of cross-fertilization expertise, and the development of joint projects between French and Brazilian teams, in order to advance the prevention, treatment and care of infectious diseases, with the broader aim of enriching bilateral cooperation in public health and research.

The signing of this protocol during COMIX 2024 represents a key moment for scientific cooperation between France and Brazil, in which ANRS MIE is a major player, given the partner site it runs with Fiocruz within its International Network, and the many partnerships it has developed there in recent years.

This partnership marks a new stage in scientific cooperation between the two countries, in a thematic field that covers the entire scope of the agency’s activities, and opens up numerous opportunities for action.
