The agency operates under the supervision of the ministries responsible for Research and Health.
It maintains close ties with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the General Secretariat for Investment, Anses (the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety), and Santé publique France.
The governance of ANRS MIE is structured around three boards:
The Advisory Board deliberates on the agency’s major strategic directions, its operations, its administrative and financial organisation, and its scientific monitoring activities.
The Scientific Advisory Board advises the agency on the main directions of its scientific strategy and activities. It also conducts forward-looking reflection on research within its thematic scope.
The Partners Board is a forum for sharing information about the agency’s activities, as well as news and research issues within its field.
The activities of ANRS Emerging infectious diseases are organised across nine departments, including four thematic departments (basic research, clinical research, public health and social sciences, and innovation), two cross-cutting departments, and one monitoring department. These departments support research in all its dimensions. Two additional departments provide support to the agency’s operations: an administrative and financial department, and a communications and scientific information department.

ANRS MIE has two types of scientific assessment bodies: nine sectoral scientific committees (SSCs) and a cohort evaluation committee. Learn about the functioning, missions, and members of these scientific assessment committees.
SSCs carry out the scientific assessment of funding applications. They can be established on a permanent or temporary basis (for calls for projects or specific missions). Each committee is composed of at least eight members, with at least one third from foreign institutions. Discover the nine Sectoral Scientific Committees.
This committee meets on a three-year cycle to conduct a scientific assessment of the cohorts managed by the agency. It is composed of independent, international, and multidisciplinary experts. Discover the Cohort Evaluation Committee.
The ANRS MIE Innovation Committee is tasked with advising and supporting project leaders developing innovative initiatives. Composed of around ten experts, the committee provides scientific, regulatory, and strategic guidance to researchers and innovators from both academia and industry. It can also direct them to the most suitable funding opportunities and, where appropriate, assist them in the subsequent stages of project development.
