Last updated on 11 April 2024

The essential

The ANRS Emerging Infectious Diseases (ANRS MIE) is preparing to launch the second call for projects of the Priority Research Programme and Equipment on Emerging Infectious Diseases (PEPR MIE), Measure 2 of the National Strategy for Accelerating Emerging Infectious Diseases and Nuclear, Radiological, Biological and Chemical (NRBC) Threats supported by France 2030.

What are the objectives of the PEPR MIE call for proposals?

To effectively prevent and control emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, at both individual and collective level, and following on from the 2023 call for proposals which saw 11 research projects launched with funding of almost €22m.

This new call will target the 3 components of the PEPR MIE :

  • Component 1 – Accelerating the acquisition of knowledge on MIE
  • Component 2 – Organising and developing new treatments, vaccines and other prevention, diagnostic and surveillance tools for MIE
  • Component 3 – Enabling public policies and society to cope with epidemic crises

The proposals must take into account the development of French knowledge and research capacities, including complementing the themes already covered by the winning projects of the 2023 call for proposals, and encourage interdisciplinarity. Cross-disciplinary approaches are also encouraged. The call for proposals is aimed at large-scale research initiatives lasting between 2 and 4 years.

In practice

This call for proposals has an indicative budget of €13m. For projects under components 1 and 2, a minimum funding request of €1 million is required. However, no minimum amount is required for projects submitted under component 3.

The 2024 AAP of the PEPR MIE will be open from 8 April 2024 to 10 June.
