For the fifth consecutive year, ANRS MIE is launching the “Emergences LMICs” call for proposals to support collaborative research projects between French research teams and research teams based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
This call targets projects on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, particularly:
It encourages scientific collaboration aimed at generating new knowledge and having an impact on health and infectious disease issues relevant to LMICs, through innovative projects that may cover basic, translational, clinical and public health research, as well as the humanities and social sciences.
Full details of this call for proposals are provided in the regulations available below.
This call is open to scientific collaborations that must involve a research team based in France and a research team from a low- or middle-income country as co-leaders of a research project. Other French or international research teams may join the collaboration as project partners.
Full research projects, with or without funding for a doctoral or postdoctoral fellowship, are eligible for this call.
Projects may last a maximum of 36 months.
Applications for research fellowships are permitted, but must not name a candidate and must be integrated into the project.
The procedures and selection criteria for projects submitted under this call are detailed in the call guidelines. Applications must be submitted through the Apogée platform.
French is the recommended language, but both options are possible.
All applications must be completed online on the Apogée platform:
Doctoral or postdoctoral research fellowships can be funded as part of your research project. The part of the project developed for the fellowship holder must be described in your scientific proposal, in the relevant section: “Integration of PhD or postdoctoral project proposals into the overall project”.
Please note that, under this administrative arrangement, fellowship applications must not name a candidate and must be included among the overall staffing requirements to be funded as part of the project in the budget section of the application form (“Personnel” tab → “Personnel requested as part of the project (technician, project manager, etc.)” subsection).
No, the Emergences LMICs 2026 call for proposals is not open to research fellowships that are not associated with a research project. Applications for research fellowships associated with a project must not name a candidate. However, the name of the selected candidate must be communicated to ANRS MIE before they take up their position, so that ANRS MIE can confirm their administrative eligibility. Applications for research fellowships will be covered by a separate call to be launched under the Start Programme.
