Expertise France & ANRS MIE Symposium: “The Fight Against AIDS in the Age of Health Disinformation”

Program for the Expertise France & ANRS MIE Symposium, AFRAVIH 2026

Tuesday, May 5, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Room 2 / Moritz A

This symposium aims to analyze the fight against HIV in the age of “infodemics,” against a context of growing distrust of science and institutions.

It will highlight the role of rumors and misinformation, not as mere errors, but as social responses to inequalities, power dynamics, and lived experiences.

The goal is to understand the structural factors that encourage adherence to these narratives, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, and to identify appropriate strategies to address them.

Discussions will also address human rights issues, the stigmatization of certain groups, and the impacts of political dynamics on research and public health.
