The CARTOVIZ COINCIDE application

CartOgraphie INfra-départementales des nouveaux diagnostiCs VIH en Île-DE-France

In brief

Mapping the HIV epidemic in Île-de-France at the level of districts for Paris, municipalities for the inner suburbs and groupings of municipalities for the outer suburbs is now possible with the development of the new interactive map tool Cartoviz COINCIDE.

Within the framework of the COINCIDE study, financially supported by ANRS MIE, COINCIDE maps were developed in collaboration with the regional Health Observatory (Observatoire régional de santé : ORS) Ile-de-France (IDF), teams from the COREVIH of IDF and Inserm. Over the period 2014-2021, they enabled the unprecedented description of the HIV epidemic at a fine territorial scale (at the level of districts for Paris, municipalities for the inner suburbs and groupings of municipalities for the outer suburbs). The Cartoviz interactive mapping tool reports on the epidemic characteristics of each territory according to 14 indicators, and also offers maps of context indicators such as screening and potential accessibility to general practitioners.

The sub-departmental scale revealed very strong territorial and population disparities. Whatever the population (MSM, women and non-MSM men born abroad), rates of new diagnoses are higher in Paris, and epidemic dynamics are less favourable outside Paris, especially in the outer suburbs. In the vast majority of these areas, the most difficult populations to reach for screening and treatment, and often the most vulnerable (women and men born abroad who are not MSM), predominate.

To combat more effectively HIV/AIDS and provide targeted, differentiated responses on a fine territorial scale, a new interactive mapping tool is now available for those involved in screening and prevention (local authorities, Regional Health Agencies (ARS), associations, pharmacists, general practitioners, free sexual health care centres, screening and diagnosis centres (CeGIDD), medical biology laboratories, etc.).

The 2030 HIV targets of 95-95-95 (‘95% of people living with HIV know their HIV status, 95% of people who know their seropositivity are on treatment and 95% of people on treatment have an undetectable viral load’) can only be achieved if targeted responses are implemented.
The Cartoviz COINCIDE tool will help to ensure that the most affected territories are given priority in screening and prevention strategies.
