Sharon Lewin et Guido Silvestri nommés présidente et vice-président du conseil scientifique

Depuis le 2 avril 2021, les Pr Sharon Lewin et Guido Silvestri, deux experts internationaux des maladies infectieuses, assurent les rôles de présidente et de vice-président du conseil scientifique de l’ANRS | Maladies infectieuses émergentes.

Since April 2, 2021, Professors Sharon Lewin and Guido Silvestri, both international experts in infectious diseases, have fulfilled the respective roles of President and Vice-President of the ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases Scientific Advisory Board.

At the suggestion of Prof. Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Director of ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Advisory Board appointed Professors Sharon Lewin and Guido Silvestri to the respective roles of President and Vice-President of the Scientific Advisory Board on April 2, 2021.

Le conseil d’orientation de l’agence a nommé, le 2 avril 2021, la Pr Sharon Lewin et le Pr Guido Silvestri présidente et vice-président du conseil scientifique, sur proposition du directeur de l’ANRS | Maladies infectieuses émergentes, le Pr Yazdan Yazdanpanah.

Prof. Sharon Lewin is Melbourne Laureate Professor of Medicine at The University of Melbourne, Director of the Peter Doherty Institute for infection and Immunity and a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Practitioner Fellow. The laboratory she leads conducts basic, translational and clinical research on HIV cure and interactions between HIV and the hepatitis B virus. Sharon Lewin is Co-Chair of the “Towards an HIV Cure” initiative of the International AIDS Society (IAS). She is also the Lead Investigator of the Australian Partnership for Preparedness Research on Infectious Diseases Emergencies (APPRISE).. 

La Pr Sharon Lewin est professeure de médecine lauréate du prix Melbourne à l’université de Melbourne, directrice du Peter Doherty Institute for infection and Immunity et membre du National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Elle est l’investigatrice principale du partenariat australien de recherche sur la préparation aux urgences en matière de maladies infectieuses (APPRISE). Le laboratoire qu’elle dirige mène des recherches fondamentales, translationnelles et cliniques sur la guérison du VIH et sur les interactions entre le VIH et le virus de l’hépatite B. Sharon Lewin est également co-présidente de l’initiative « Towards an HIV Cure » de l’International AIDS Society (IAS). 

Prof. Guido Silvestri is a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Comparative Pathology, as well as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta). He also serves as Chief of the Division of Microbiology and Immunology at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center. Dr. Silvestri’s work has focused on HIV infection pathogenesis, prevention, and therapy, as well as on non-human primate models of HIV. He is Editor of the Journal of Virology, and a member, among others things, of the Scientific Committee of the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) and of the IAS « Towards an HIV Cure » initiative.

Le Pr Guido Silvestri est chercheur éminent en pathologie comparée à la Georgia Research Alliance, ainsi que professeur et directeur du département de « Pathology and Laboratory Medicine » de l’École de médecine de l’université Emory (Atlanta), dans laquelle il est également directeur de la division de microbiologie et d’immunologie au Centre national de recherche sur les primates de Yerkes. Ses travaux ont porté sur la pathogenèse de l’infection par le VIH, la prévention et les traitements, ainsi que sur les modèles primates non-humains du VIH. Depuis 2013, il est directeur éditorial du Journal of Virology, et également membre, entre autres, du conseil scientifique de la CROI (conférence internationale sur les rétrovirus et les infections opportunistes) et de groupes de travail de l’initiative « Towards an HIV Cure » de l’IAS.

Avec les autres membres du conseil, ils participeront à la définition des grandes orientations scientifiques et l’établissement de bilans des actions réalisées par l’ANRS | Maladies infectieuses émergentes.
