The essential
- The “historic” Mother and Child Group focused mainly on HIV (AC44).
- The Coordinated Mother and Child Action (AC ME), established in 2024, aims to cover the entire scope of the ANRS MIE while meeting its scientific research priorities.
- It is interdisciplinary and cross-thematic in nature, working across and complementing other coordinated action thematic, specifically targeting vertical transmission, mothers, children and adolescents.
Focus and missions
The Coordinated Mother and Child Action has three main areas:
- Fundamental science
- Clinical research
- Public health
Its main tasks include:
- Promoting research projects dedicated to pregnant women, children and adolescents.
- Reflection on the inclusion (or exclusion) of these populations in clinical studies and trials.
- Implementation of cross-functional and structural projects with a high-impact.
Finally, the Coordinated Mother and Child Action plays a key role as an interface with the mother-child working groups of other ACs, fostering a coordinated and integrated approach.

VIROPREG: expanding our knowledge of viral infections in mother-child pairs
The ANRS 0288s VIROPREG study is a prospective national cohort study whose objective is to assess the impact of various viral infections contracted during pregnancy on the pregnant woman, the outcome of the pregnancy and the child’s early years.
The aim? To focus on the physical and mental health of pregnant women living with a viral infection and that of their children.
