Call for applications specifically for young researchers

The Fellowship programme 2024 is the first call for applications specifically dedicated to young researchers launched by the ANRS MIE. It is part of the agency’s new programme to support the next generation of scientists.

The call is designed to fund individual grants to promising candidates working on specific themes. Three types of fellowship will be selected for this first edition:

1. Thesis grants focused on modelling

In partnership with the coordinated action modelling of infectious diseases

The proposed projects should focus on the modelling of all aspects of human infectious diseases falling within the scope of the ANRS MIE, with priority, but not exclusive, themes and approaches:

  • Multi-scale modelling of epidemic dynamics,
  • Intra-host modelling,
  • Integrating behaviour into epidemic models,
  • Modelling sexually transmitted infections,
  • Modelling vector-borne and zoonotic diseases,
  • Feedback on the use of modelling as a decision-making tool during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The thesis project should involve innovative modelling and/or methodology.

2.Thesis grants focusing on arboviroses

In partnership with the Arbo-France network

All aspects and disciplines of arbovirology related to emerging or re-emerging viruses are eligible, although two priority themes have been identified, which are not restrictive:

  • The animal component of arboviral infections: study of the animal compartment of a zoonosis / study of a strictly animal arbovirosis that can serve as a model of emergence,
  • Interventional population health research* on human arboviroses, in mainland France and/or the overseas territories: vector control / monitoring the progression of arboviral risk and the use of vaccines.

* Population health intervention research (PHIR) aims to produce knowledge about interventions (actions, programmes, organisations or policies) likely to influence the distribution of risk and protection factors in a given population and reduce social inequalities in health, and likely to have an impact on the social, cultural and environmental determinants of health in this population.

3. Master’s scholarships

For young researchers in the agency’s international network who wish to go on to complete a thesis and develop their research career.

The aim of the International Network Master’s Scholarships presented here is to enable the candidates supported to follow and obtain a Master II or a Specialised Master (MS) which will then enable them to open up the possibility of pursuing their career in research on ANRS MIE themes. The theme of the Master II / MS is not imposed, nor is the country in which it must be taken.

For the 3 types of fellowship, the eligibility criteria and submission procedures are specified in the application regulations.

In practice

The specific approaches and priorities for each theme and each type of grant, as well as the eligibility criteria, will be detailed in the regulations made available when the call opens.
